Texas Tech won at North Texas


Denton, Texas – Powered by another balanced offensive effort with three goals, Texas Tech edged North Texas, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the UNT Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.

“It was the kind of win we needed,” said the head coach. Tom Stone he said. “We had to not only win on the road against a really good opponent, we had to hold on to win. But that turn doesn’t break the mindset. Games like this have to be stacked against everyone. It’s time to get you ready.”

Hannah Anderson In the 6th minute, scoring for Texas Tech (3-2-3) started from A Sierra Jones Free kick into the back of the net. The goal was Anderson’s first of the season.

North Texas (4-3-1) tied the game after 10 minutes with Grace Dennis giving up Summer Brown.

Tech’s offense showed its resiliency after a short period of time. Caitlin Giametta found Gisele Kozarski to give the Red Raiders a 2-1 lead. The strike came as Kozarski’s first goal of the season, hitting the crossbar in back-to-back matches.

The first half is over Macy Schultz Third goal of the season. Schultz made a dangerous run just outside the 18-yard box and beat a pair of midfield Green defenders.

Olivia Klein scored five minutes into the second half.

Ahead 3-2 with 40 minutes left in the game, the Red Raiders tried to keep the Mean Green off the scoreboard.

With just nine minutes left in the game, North Texas had the best scoring opportunity of the final 40 minutes, but Madison White Taylor Tufts tried to save.

As a result of Sunday’s 3-2 win, the Red Raiders extended their unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1). Tech is over .500 for the first time since Aug. 18.

Next up

Texas Tech returns home for its final conference matchup against Fresno State. Friday’s kickoff from the John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
