Season openers come with a lot of unknowns.
For No. 4 Clemson’s season opener against Georgia Tech, the Tigers know to expect the unexpected, as there has been a lot of turnover not only on the Yellow Jackets’ roster, but also on the coaching staff.
“We’re not sure what we’re going to get,” Will Shipley told the media on Thursday. They’ve got a lot of turnovers since the spring, they’ve given us completely different defensive fronts the last two years, so we’re going to go there, see what they give us. You know, flashlight in hand and you can do it. Then to move.”
Outside of the program, after many saw the Tigers start 4-3 and have a fall campaign in 2021, before rebounding by winning their last six games, Shipley said this Clemson team is ready to prove that last season isn’t an anomaly. What to expect in the future.

“It’s definitely something in the back of our minds,” he said. “We want to go out there and show everybody what we’re really about. You know, we’ve put in the work, there’s no doubt about that. But now it’s time to let the country know. Clemson football, yeah, we’ve had a year like a lot of people say: we’re back. We are ready to show everyone our true selves.
At the end of the day, the Tigers are ready to get back on the field and start playing real opponents. That starts with taking their success on the practice field to Atlanta on Monday night.
“To be honest with you, I’m ready to go out there and play,” Shipley said. “But the week is so important. You’re not going to have the success you want without putting in the work leading up to the game. So I’m just looking forward to today and tomorrow and then the next day and then I can’t wait. Go out there on Monday.”
