The Detroit designer hit the runway at New York Fashion Week

(CBS DETROIT) – Michigan is once again making its mark on the fashion world.

New Detroit design label Nandanie was seen hitting the runway at two New York Fashion Week shows.

“It felt like a fairy tale, it was amazing,” said designer and founder of Nandanie, Nancy Berman.

The luxury tie collection features ready-to-wear styles in simple and slim silhouettes.

“It has to be light, it has to be beautiful and it has to elevate your outfit,” Berman said.

The designer said each tie is made using sustainable fashion materials.

“I started buying fabrics from other luxury brands that had leftover fabric. For example, this green tie, that was Alice & Olivia material.”

Berman’s tie collection was first previewed less than a year ago in November.

“I’ve always loved connections,” Berman said. “In the ’90s I used to wear ties, they were really cool. Then they just seemed to disappear. It made me think, why aren’t there more ties for women?”

Since then, the brand has taken off. This may be due to the ambition and drive of the designer.

“I just decided this is what I’m going to do, I want to do this and I’m going to make it happen,” Berman said.

It is this passion that the designer hopes all women feel when wearing items from her brand.

Berman described her debut collection as “empowering and confidence-boosting.”

“I want a woman to put on the tie, for her confidence to rise, and I want her to walk into a room and feel like she has an equal seat at the table, feel like she can do whatever she wants to do.” Berman said.

In addition to the two NYFW runway shows, the Nandanie tie collection was also shown at Harper’s Bazaar.

“It’s actually kind of crazy, it just takes off so quickly,” Berman said.
