Less than two weeks after the Cultural Heritage Administration canceled luxury brand Gucci’s fashion show to be held in Gyeongbokgung on November 1, Gucci Korea announced on Thursday that the fashion show would go ahead as planned.

Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele will stage his first runway show in Korea at the Seoul Central Palace, according to Gucci Korea’s press release on Thursday. The announcement said that the artistic and historical value of the Joseon palace will contribute to writing a new chapter for the narrative of the Gucci fashion show.

The CHA committee had given conditional approval for the show on August 16, with guidelines including verification of historical facts and taking advice from relevant history experts. However, on August 29, Korean media reported that the CHA had canceled the event.

Although CHA did not make an official statement on the latest developments, an agency official confirmed that an agreement has been made with Gucci to stage the runway show at the palace.

“After the plan to cancel Gucci’s show in Gyeongbokgung, we discussed the matter closely with Gucci once again before making a final decision,” an official at CHA told The Korea Herald on Thursday.

The official added that public opinion on the matter was one of the factors taken into consideration in making the final decision.

The CHA has tried to avoid further controversy that could arise by approving historic locations for use by the private sector after a recent public uproar over the use of Cheong Wa Dae, the former presidential office, in a sprawling fashion magazine. said the official.
