Chattanooga – Virginia Tech wrestling returns to Blacksburg after two days of competition in Chattanooga with two 2023 South Scaffold placers. The Hokies finished fourth in the redshirt sophomore division Sam Fisher And he finished seventh behind freshman TJ Stewart.

Fisher was impressive throughout the tournament, winning five straight in the consolation bracket after dropping his second bout of the tournament to No. 24 Jacob Ferreira (Hofstra). On the back end, Fisher beat three ranked opponents in a row – No. 22 Sean Harman (Mizzou) 6-2, No. 23 Jacob Nolan (Binghamton) 2-1, then avenged an earlier loss to Ferreira (Hofstra), 8 -6. Fisher then went 0-6 against Oklahoma State’s Gavin Stitka in the third-place match to finish fourth with a 6-2 record.

Another impressive freshman in the Hokies class was TJ Stewart, who finished eighth in his Southern Scuffle debut. The freshman went 4-3 in Chattanooga with three major hits and two of his three losses came against Stanford’s 20 Nick Stamet. Stewart was explosive all weekend, defeating Nick Miller (Hofstra) 9-6, Sam Moran (Garder-Webb) 9-3, and Josh McCham (Garder-Webb), 7-2.
