The Huskies will begin the 2022 regular season on the road








Houghton, Mich – The Michigan Tech football team opens the season by facing Minnesota Duluth on Thursday and then returns to action against St. Cloud State on Saturday. The game against Minnesota Duluth is set for 7pm at James S. Malosky Stadium, while the matchup against St. Cloud State is at 1pm at Husky Stadium.

About Duluth, Minnesota

Minnesota Duluth finished 12th in the NSIC last season, posting a 3-12-3 overall record and going 3-9-3 in conference play. The Bulldogs were picked to finish 11th in the NSIC Preseason Football Coaches Poll.

UMD adds 10 newcomers to the roster while returning key players in Sarah Stange and Maddie Felton.

Stange finished the 2021 season with a goal and an assist, holding UMD to a .867 SOG% on offense with 14 shots on goal.

Felton played in 15 of 18 games last season, starting 10 for the Bulldogs. She is one of seven Bulldogs to see more than 1,000 minutes in the 2021 season.

About St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State finished seventh in the NSIC last season, going 7-8-3 overall and 7-5-3 in the loop. Most recently, the Huskies were ranked seventh in the NSIC Preseason Soccer Coaches’ Poll.

SCSU returns first-team all-conference player Carly Valdez, who started all 18 games last season. She had eight points, three goals, two assists and one game-winning goal.

The Huskies also return goaltender Evie Kohn, who started all 18 games a year ago, and had 68 saves and five shutouts.

About Michigan Tech

Earlier this week, Michigan Tech was picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Head coach Bulut Ozturk returns for his third season after his team finished 12-7 overall and 9-5 last season. The Huskies welcome back nine newcomers and return 19 from last year’s roster.

Among Michigan Tech’s returnees are Julia Pietila and Stephanie Yeager who will look to continue to bring offense to the Huskies.

Pietyla returns for her sophomore season after leading the Huskies with seven goals in her first season, while also tallying an assist. The Hartland, Michigan native scored 17 goals, including one game-winning goal.

Last season, he made the All-GLIAC second team and led the team in scoring with 18 points to go along with five goals and eight assists. She returns first in the conference in assists per game (0.42), after finishing 24th nationally last season. Three of his 5 goals were game-winners.

In the back line, the Huskies return Molly Bolang and Alicia Shatrau, who were both All-GLIAC performers.

Bolang, who was named All-GLIAC second team, returns for her junior season after starting every game for the Black and Gold a year ago. She was instrumental in Michigan Tech’s 10 shutouts last season.

Shatrow, who was named All-GLIAC honorable mention, returns for her fifth year after starting one game for the Huskies last season.

One last thing

Michigan Tech opened the season last year by hosting Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, beating UMD 4-0 and SCSU 1-0. Yeager scored the game-winning goal against St. Cloud State.
