The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority announced that business is increasing


JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – According to the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority, passenger numbers are at a 10-year high.

In the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, airline partners American, Delta, Southwest and United carried more than 1.2 million passengers, he said. These numbers are the highest since 2012 and outpace post-Covid growth at most US airports.

He also said that passenger traffic has increased by 42 percent. $32 million in capital improvements are underway.

JMAA said the money is being spent on Jackson-Medgar Willie Evers International Airport and Hawkins Field.

These projects will generate hundreds of good-paying jobs for Jacksonians and others in the metro area and central Mississippi, said Elsheri Dean, director of communications, marketing and public relations for JMAA.

Runway and taxiway upgrades are underway, and a new passenger jet bridge is expected to come online in November.

There are also new food and beverage services open to travelers from 5:00 am.
