WICHITA, Kan. (YOU ARE) – After a big win for the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, travel agents advise fans who want to go to the Super Bowl to book and celebrate later.

The big game is in Glendale, Arizona this year, near Phoenix, on Feb. 12. The Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles.

“It was just unbelievably great,” Chiefs fan Chuck Fann said. “I’ll tell you what, I couldn’t sit most of the time.”

AAA Travel Advisor Matt Bert said the Super Bowl is one of the most expensive yearly events. He said when booking a trip to Arizona, finding a place to stay should be priority number one.

“Rooms are, you know, not as readily available, because it is a large event and the cost of the rooms exponentially have gone up overnight,” Bert said.

Delta Airlines is offering a direct flight from Wichita to Phoenix on Friday, Feb. 10. Bert said, if someone is looking for a cheaper option, there is a second, smaller airport in Phoenix, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

“Look at Tucson as well,” he said. “If you’re going to rent a car and have to stay at a hotel, you know, flying down to Tucson and driving up to Phoenix wouldn’t be a bad idea.”

Tucson is about a two-hour drive away from Glendale. Flights from Wichita are off and on the week of the Super Bowl but priced closer to $1,500.

“You want to get a good deal, but sometimes those prices are too good to be true, and you end up stuck at an airport or you have a 15-hour layover in Dallas or something like that…to where is it really worth it?” Bert said.

Fann said traveling to the Super Bowl is beyond his reach, as much as he would love to go. However, he is still participating in some travel to watch the game with his son in Texas.

“No doubt about it,” Fann said. “It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be great, and go Chiefs.”

Several airline companies are also adding direct flights to Phoenix from the Kansas City airport.
