This startup from Carnegie Mellon hit my tabs once and for all • TechCrunch

Schema’s research-backed Chrome extension went out of beta last month.

This is a general browser The situation is completely impossible.

I subscribe to a (very good) newsletter called “Today in the Tabs,” and the name encapsulates a problem not unique to me: At 5pm EDT, I have a line of stories I want to read. Twitter, various Slack channels, email newsletters, and homepages.

It doesn’t mean anything about my work. If you’re a “knowledge worker,” you’re constantly going through your day with multiple tabs—your to-do list, your reading list, your shopping list, and your various communication channels. It’s chaos, and most of us seem to just watch it?

Of course there are tab fight solutions on the market: Workona, Opera and Heyday, the recently introduced vertical tab feature for Safari, etc.

I’ve never thought of any of them, and I’m the ultimate organized control freak for productivity. In other areas of my life, I look for ways to increase efficiency in how my space is organized. But not my tabs.

This speaks volumes for Chrome: I accept that the set of features provided by Google is what I need to do my job, shop online, and go about my life. It never appeared, at least to me, to have at least four windows with – depending on the time of day – two to two dozen tabs. Painful.

I know now that it is. In the interest of being of little service, let me tell you about Skeema, a new startup out of Carnegie Mellon University, which could easily be thrown into the “tab management” bucket, but actually – and has the potential to do – so much more. More.

I did not think about that fact Even this obvious problem was a problem A few weeks ago. A friend here at CMU in Pittsburgh dropped a link in our (Google, duh) discussion of a Chrome extension written by CMU Human-Computer Interaction Institute professor and Skeema CEO/Founder Nguse Kitur. It instantly changed how I spend my days on the internet.

After using Skeema for just a few days and successfully adjusting the tabs, I set up a chat with Kittur to find out how it came to life.
