Travel in full force at RDU ahead of Labor Day weekend :: WRAL.com

Travel is already in full force with people getting ready to get their Labor Day weekend.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day at Raleigh-Durham International Airport with 32,000 travelers. RDU leaders are expecting 150,000 travelers throughout the holiday weekend, which is higher than the 128,000 passengers that went through RDU last year.

Friday didn’t have many cancellations or delays. Travelers are asked to arrive two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.

On Friday, Patty Edmonds was traveling to Iceland. She arrived hours in advance of her flight.

“We’re ready to go,” Edmonds said. “We’re not sure about our flights, what’s going to happen.

“We’re hearing all the news reports, [but] traffic getting in here was bad. I actually live in Greensboro, so we came early we don’t leave until 7:30 p.m., so we’re trying to find a lounge and sit down and relax.”

There will also be some road work to watch out for: National Guard Drive is being repaved from Aviation Parkway to Haleys Branch Road. Drivers may experience brief delays while traffic is temporarily limited to one-way.

Parking fills up quickly too. Travelers are also encouraged to book parking at least 24 hours in advance.
