TRAVEL: Plan Your Fall Trip to The Renovated PGA National

August is winding down, and Labor Day weekend is fast approaching.  Summer is ending, club championships will be wrapped up in the next few weeks, and then it’s fall golf. But that shouldn’t mean it’s time to toss the shorts into the back of your closet until May 2023.

PGA National Resort—located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (less than 30 minutes north of West Palm Beach)—will be debuting its newly renovated Champion Course to resort guests and members on September 2nd.  The Jack Nicklaus-design course and annual host to the PGA TOUR Honda Classic just benefitted from an extensive renovation to every bunker on the course.  Indeed, each and every bunker was either rebuilt or eliminated to ensure the absolute best in playability and strategy. Bunkers that remain on the course are now equipped with new subsurface drainage, “Better Billy Bunker” liners, and eye-catching G-Angle sand.

In addition to the impressive bunker renovation, The Champion Course now also features a major rework of its cart paths as well as new sod throughout. The upgrades join the stunning results of the resort’s recent $100 million transformation touching almost every aspect of the legendary South Florida destination.

PGA National Resort’s 99 holes of extraordinary golf also now feature two new bold, and innovative Andy Staples-designed layouts, which both opened in 2021 to rave reviews, The Staple—a 9-hole Par-3 course, with holes ranging from 60 to 130 yards—and The Match—an 18-hole course that features holes inspired by Seth Raynor, C.B. MacDonald, and Donald Ross and encourages golfers to add an interesting spin to their round: pick a game that allows the winner of each hole to pick the tee location for the following.

Perfectly coinciding with the reopening of the Champion Course is PGA National’s Gold Golf Package, with rates starting at $560 (per person, per night, double occupancy), providing a daily round at PGA National’s The Fazio, The Match or The Estate courses, and upgrade rounds at The Champion and The Palmer courses, along with grab-and-go breakfast each morning; unlimited range balls / golf bag storage; and complimentary access to the resort’s state-of-the-art Sports & Racquet Club.

Jane Broderick, Director of Golf, said:

“With the exciting work from Nicklaus Design complete, our celebrated Champion Course is now better than ever… We invite you to visit us and play our ‘bucket list’ Champion Course, new Match and Staple courses, and also savor our world-class accommodations and amenities that few golf destinations can equal.”

Another part of the substantial investment included the resort launching six new culinary concepts showcasing signature restaurants, including James Beard Award nominee and “Top Chef” winner Jeremy Ford and multiple James Beard Award nominee Lindsay Autry. Guests can enjoy a new high-end chocolatier, ice cream shop, brand-new kids club, and a reimagined 40,000-square-foot Spa, just a few of the latest offerings throughout PGA National Resort.

A golf lover’s dream location, PGA National Resort features extraordinary instruction at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, Dave Pelz Scoring Game School, and Full Process Golf—the world’s first science-based and statistical data-driven training system for golf improvement—located at its off-site Estate Course.

Regardless if you need a dedicated golf trip or a family escape with some quality meals and a little golf, a fall trip to PGA National will allow you to extend the summer fun with some top tier golf, meals, and memorable experiences.
