Virginia Tech improves the game day experience for students

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech’s home opener is almost here and this season the university has announced improvements to the student experience at football games.

There will be a new tailgating event for students at the Hockey Grill on campus. It opens three hours and 30 minutes before the opening and includes games, live music and more.

Gate 7 remains a student-only entrance, but now all students will be directed to a new entry point to Lane Stadium, located on Washington Street between Hanhurst’s basketball practice and tennis courts.

The new entrance will have giveaways to help accommodate the crowds, as well as bag checks and ticket scanning stations.

“Changing the way students come in, adding some fun things, adding more types of security so people have more room to move around. We’re trying to do things to make it fun, exciting and safe,” said Mark Ouzarski, assistant professor of university relations at Virginia Tech.
