What to expect at the V&A’s NYE party

Following last year’s successful event, the V&A Waterfront 2016/17 New Year’s Eve Celebration will take place on 31 December 2016 from 6.30pm-2.00am.

The free event brings earth, wind, fire and water to life on the property, with exciting entertainment zones around every corner to give viewers a different experience.

Each of the four stimulation zones spread across the property will be individually themed to provide visitors with unique color and fun experiences as they stroll through the property this New Year’s Eve.

Different zones will come alive from 6.30pm onwards, with bus activities and entertainment, circus performances, musicians, singers and live bands, dance performances, floats, entertainers and more. More than 80 restaurants and eateries will be open in the evening, and additional food trucks will be located throughout the property.

Recreational areas

The V&A amphitheater is decorated in white to reflect the theme of air and wind in this ‘zone’, with fairy lights complementing the ethereal look. Entertainment in this area is provided by live bands, dancers and acrobats performing amazing feats in the air.

A red-hot feel greets visitors at Alfred Mall as the trees and surroundings are filled with warm, spicy colors, live bands, circus acts and colorful characters.

Vibrant greens and rustic tones greet spectators at Nobel Square. African roots and magical tree nymphs entertain the crowds alongside live bands, circus acts and carnival rides.

The mysterious blues of the deep sea and vibrant colors from the coral reefs are reflected in the water theme of the Clock Tower. Here the pirate ship glows in shades of blue as the captain entertains the audience until 2017.

As usual, partygoers can look forward to the midnight countdown to the New Year, which is seen as a tradition each year with fireworks.

Traffic and parking

The parking lot fills up quickly and the traffic congestion in the city makes it difficult to get to the Waterfront, so visitors are advised to use the MyCiTi bus service as an alternative. The last bus departs from Breakwater Boulevard at the V&A Waterfront at 1am.

Visitors who prefer to arrive by car are encouraged to park at Silo District, which is only a five-minute walk from Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre. For anyone traveling from the Atlantic Seaboard, the quickest route is via Granger Bay Boulevard. A tip for visitors wanting to park at the Breakwater Parking Garage – Take the Beach Road entrance to the Breakwater Parking Garage for a quick route. It is a quick walk across the road to Entrance 2 of the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre.
