A daylong conference for young people to learn about health, technology, entrepreneurship and leadership is coming to Milwaukee Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts.
The STEAM and Dream MKE Summit for Adults and Youth seeks to engage youth and adults ages 12-17 with the tools to pursue their dreams in technology and entrepreneurship. It will be filled with various workshops centered around STEAM topics. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
As well as a hip-hop yoga class for middle school students and a fireside chat for high school students and adults, a podcast by Rashad Bilal and Troy Milling offers financial perspectives on the entertainment and sports industries. And highlights the background of entrepreneurs.
Kenge Adams, an officer of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation, one of the partner groups, said the organizers want young people to leave the conference “dreaming big and feeling like they have the resources to make their dreams come true.”
STEM & DREAM is a collaboration of Black-led community organizations working to raise the next technology leaders and create opportunities for Black youth to explore and create in STEM – Science, Tech, Engineering and Math. Funded by American Family Insurance, the program was created to help K-12 students and adults find career fields in business and technology.

“As we move into a technology-centric world, communities of color are often overlooked in the conversations and developments coming to other communities,” the organizers said in a news release.
“STEAM and Dream strives to educate and prepare Black communities and historically underserved communities for technology careers, and close the technology and equity gaps in urban communities that drive the future of technology.”
