Zonta ADK for fundraising with local business | News, sports, jobs



LAKE PLACID – Zonta ADK announced Tuesday that the group is partnering with local businesses this month to raise awareness about domestic violence. The club is also hosting two annual events.

Throughout the month of October, Zonta ADK is partnering with Pure Placid to bring awareness and funds for Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women. Through this campaign, Zonta members and partners aim to advocate for victims of gender-based violence. The income from the sale of the specially created “Zonta says no.” The candle goes to projects that help women in need, including menstrual products to local food pantries, microgrants to local women, and educational opportunities for disadvantaged women and girls, such as local scholarships.

On Sunday, October 16, the club will once again hold its annual Free the Girls bra drive. The club will be collecting gently used and brand new bras in the parking lot of St. Agnes Lake Placid School starting at 2 p.m. in the afternoon for sex-trafficking survivors who want to get back into shape. “normal” Life. By collecting bras, women in countries like El Salvador, Mozambique and Costa Rica are starting their own businesses, selling the bras on the second-hand market through the non-profit organization Girls.

Zonta ADK’s third annual Halloween decorating contest is also taking place this month. Admission is free and must feature indoor or outdoor Halloween decorations.
