So what happened this season at New York Fashion Week? Fendi and Marni debuted, newcomers like Nguyen Inc. appeared. and Mirror Palais, and it looked like they were all wearing Loewe sunglasses. Here, 14 moments we thought were important:

They did the Fendi Hammerstein Ballroom, turning it soothing beige, and threw everything LVMH had at the show: a Kim Jones–meets–Marc Jacobs–meets–Tiffany & Co. It was all to celebrate the baguette, in 25 godmothers of “It” bags. But my biggest treat came from going backstage after the show, where Jones’ friend Kate Moss beamed proudly, heather in hand, next to her daughter, Lila, who opened the show. Is the jelly shoe … eternal? The quirky subject has been revived several times since the ’80s, but most recently and most prominently at Coach’s runway show—on the feet of Lil Nas X, no less. As a fashion icon in its own right, this moment at the center of attention was crucial to this nostalgic piece of footwear and its redemptive arc; Jelly shoes are officially back. Does it seem ironic to resurrect a plastic shoe at a time of dire climate crisis? Yes! Do we recommend buying jelly just because Lil Nas X wore it? No! But we can certainly appreciate them nonetheless. – Dania Issawi

If there’s one thing you can expect from a Collina Strada show, it’s that it’s up front. I’ve seen everything from carrots to kale on the runway, but this season, broccoli got the black-tie treatment. One model carried vegetables like a bag, and was stunned with fringe, making everyone in the audience do a double take. Is it broccoli?? Yes, and it’s the designer. – Emilia Petrarch

If you’re lucky, you witness a moment during New York Fashion Week that reminds you of the magic of fashion. That moment came for me in an alley in Chinatown as Kim Nguyen showed her first New York Fashion Week collection. She showed off her crochet miniskirts, knit tops and embellished tanks of“Nguyen Inc.”, its namesake brand. In what was a true display of talent and community, most of the downtown fashion kids lined the runway, cheering on Paloma Elsesser, Richie Shazam and Beatrice Domond. Friends showed up (myself included – full disclosure) in her signature Power shirts, a rare show of genuine support at the end of a hectic week. – Joana Nikas

Girls with oily skin can rejoice: Bright and shiny skin has. At Mirror Palais, they combined effortless hair with a natural glow and a suntanned blush. On Aliette, heavy blush and bold lips were paired with glowing skin and a prominent accent. At Eckhaus Latta, makeup artist Fara Hamidi put a seemingly clear film on the models’ faces to make them look really shiny. If there was ever a time to embrace your oily skin, it’s now. – China Rodriguez

At Bad Binch Tongtong on Friday, a mermaid took to the runway to open the show, followed by a choreography of dancers in the brand’s signature plush octopus, butterflies and stilettos. The whole performance was joyous and had the most diverse cast I’ve seen all week. Let’s not forget: Fashion should be fun! – Vivian Chuang

A few of my friends carry SC103 bags, so I’ve admired the brand’s leather clutch bags for a while, but after going to Sophie Andes-Gascon and Claire McKinney’s show last week, I feel like I’ve seen them. everywhere. The designers returned to NYFW after a short hiatus, showing their latest collection to a packed house at the Nolita gymnasium where Rachel Comey usually hosts her sample sales. Like the bags, the clothes are all one-of-a-kind and built from the dead, and the thought and technical skill that goes into each one really came through. – EP

Every day, every show – there, it seemed, was Hari Nef. She may have gone to Hollywood (look it up inside Barbie and Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s The idol soon), but she hit the tracks at Collina Strada, Tommy, Eckhaus, Vogue The world—more than that, in each of which she seemed to be passing her time life. A welcome relief from the usual dreary parade. Maybe Roxanne Lowe’s death this week has put me in a nostalgic mood, but don’t you miss the days when models smiled? – MRS

YYDC’s Yue Yin opened Ashlyn’s show with a moving performance, echoing the show’s theme: resilience—of motherhood, womanhood, and individuality. It was followed by a collection of looks that were thoughtful in tailoring and a little too cute in form. I loved every look! – VC

At Sandy Liang’s show, models wore tiny satin roses in their hair and on their wrists as prom corsages. I always have a hair tie on me, so I love the idea of dressing it up a bit, and who doesn’t want a second chance at prom looks? These scrunchies aren’t cheap ($65), but I can see myself wearing them every day. – EP

NYFW attendees took the “Wear your Loewe sunglasses” memo and stuck to it. Whether it’s Paula’s Ibiza geometric sunglasses, puffy sunglasses, or floral cat-eye sunglasses, if your eyes don’t look like those of a sleepy Furby or Wall-E, have you even paraded down the city streets ? – Bianca Nieves

At Fe Noel’s runway show, hairstylist Lacy Redway put her style on baby hair and had models walk the runway with sleek forehead waves. It was almost like a baby hair noise. Move over, men, because us women are going to start rocking the next wave. -Asia Millia Ware

At first, I thought it was a juxtaposition that we saw a lot of skin on the runway this season, from sheer dresses to intentional butt-baring moments, and then plenty of street-style maxi-skirt moments. But the more I took a look at the attendees and the shows, I noticed that we’re tending to be more stripped down. Cutouts were seen all over the runways, from jackets to dresses and on the runway – like Peter Do’s cropped trousers with side slits. – AMW

Watching young designers present their first show at Fashion Week is a bit like watching a baby bird leave the nest for the first time. All you can do is hope for the best and pray that they really do know how to fly. It’s a particularly special experience when the introduction of a player for the first time amazes you, as Marcelo Gaia of Mirror Palais and Jackson Wiederhoeft of Wiederhoeft did for me this season. Gaia’s work was simple and ethereal. His show, which was held in a church and featured a diverse range of models, including first-timers like him, thrilled my deeply non-religious soul. The shoes were also vintage and used by Millennial Decorator, which I always appreciate. And while Gaia’s work made me emotional, Wiederhoeft’s delivered the final blow. I found myself in tears at his show. His show really had it all: beautiful clothes; inclusive, community-minded casting (he’s been working with the same group of models and dancers for years); a fascinating story line; and transcendent music. It was a complete performance that worked together beautifully with his rococo designs. As the show came to a close, I turned to our senior social media manager, Sasha, and we both found ourselves in tears. I felt sad to see it end, but happy to see such a deserving designer flourish.
