ST. george – The Western Athletic Conference announced its final men’s basketball league schedule for the 2022-23 season for Utah Tech University and the rest of the conference’s schools on Wednesday.
Utah Tech will host the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley to open WAC play on Dec. 29 before heading to Interstate 15 in Orem for a New Year’s Eve matchup against in-state rival Utah Valley.
Following a quick road trip to Riverside to play at California Baptist on Jan. 5, UT will play three of its next four league games at home, starting with a Jan. 12 date against Stephen F. Austin. The Trailblazers will play host. to Sam Houston on Jan. 14 and conference tourney champion New Mexico State on Jan. 21, with a midweek road tilt on Jan. 18.
Utah Tech closes out road games next weekend with the first of two trips to Texas on Jan. 26 and Abilene Christian on Jan. 28. The Blazers return home to host UVU on Feb. 2 and fellow newcomer and in-state host Wasee. rival Southern Utah on Feb. 4.
UT begins a stretch that sees the Trailblazers play four of their next five games on the road, starting with a Feb. 8 date against Seattle U. Following a home game against Tarleton on Feb. 11, Utah Tech returns to Texas to play at SUU on Feb. 18 and UTRGV on Feb. 23 and conference newcomer UT-Arlington on Feb. 25.
The Trailblazers return home next week to close out the regular season with games against Seattle U on March 1 and GCU on March 3.
The 2023 WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held the week of March 6-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last June, the WAC announced that DI transfer members Utah Tech and Tarleton would be allowed to compete in all conference championships beginning in the 2022-23 season.
