PHILADELPHIA – Temple women’s soccer (0-2-3) is set to travel to West Philadelphia on Thursday, Sept. 8 to battle it out against city foe, Drexel (4-0-2). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FloSports from Vidas Field.

The Owls

  • After opening the season with a home match on Aug. 18, the Cherry and White have battled through an away stretch, playing their last four matches on the road, with two more remaining before returning to North Broad.
  • In their most recent matchup against Rider, Temple brought home the 0-0 draw in a hard-fought battle.
  • Goalkeeper Kyla Burns has been a standout for the Owls this year, recording 28 saves in her four-game stint after replacing an injured Kamryn Stablein.
  • Emily Kavanaugh has been the driving force for the offense this year, recording the first goal of 2022, netting a header in the 63rd minute of the Maryland matchup off a goalie deflection.

The Dragons

  • The Dragons enter the matchup unbeaten, posting a 4-0-2 record in 2022, earning wins over Loyola (3-1), Marist (2-0), Lehigh (3-2) and Duquesne (2-0).  In this undefeated run, Drexel has outscored their opponents 10-5.
  • Last year, Drexel posted a 6-8-3 record, which included a 2-5-2 conference showing while going 2-4-2 on their home turf.
  • The Dragons have a versatile offense this year, getting scoring contributions from five different student-athletes in just six games. Delaney Lappin, Annalena O’Reilly and Casey Touey lead the charge for the Dragons, each netting three goals.
  • Lappin and O’Reilly have added an assist, making them the team point leaders, while Lily Dunbar has been a kickstarted for the Drexel offense, contributing two helpers, to act as the team leader in the assist category.
  • Moly Piso has been the primary keeper for the Dragons, clocking 405 minutes in goal this season. The junior has recorded 21 saves for a .840 save percentage, sitting at fourth in the CAA.

History

The matchup between the Owls and the Dragons marks the 17th time the teams have met in program history with a contest record of 9-6-1. The teams’ last meeting came in 2021, where the Owls defeated the Dragons, 3-0 at the Temple Sports Complex, their largest scoring margin of the season.
