While Fall hasn’t officially arrived, data analyzing upcoming fall fashion shopping trends has arrived—and it reveals that another iconic closet item from the 2000s is making a comeback.
Fear not, millennials, it’s not low-rise jeans (or anything low-cut for that matter).
You may be pleasantly surprised to hear that the styles that have caught the attention of influencers and fashionistas lean more towards a climber’s aesthetic than a glamorous style.
According to the data shared with Parade from shopping app LTK, online searches for cargo pants are up 123% since June. These past months have also seen significant increases in searches for leggings (+139%), hiking boots (+70%), windbreakers (+52%) and henleys (+169%), according to the release.
The app reviews the rise of summer glamping and the site’s fashion influencers (such as Kathleen Post AND Chandler DeHart) for her platform’s savvy take on this outdoorsy-chic style. But believe it or not, cargo pants have been trending on many other social media apps — even Chipotle got in on it and created a pair of napkin cargo pants.
It’s clear that utility pants are having a moment. And that’s not all bad; ladies, they have pockets!
Dozens of TikTok videos created by amateur designers and grassroots fans have racked up millions of views each in the past few weeks alone.
One user shared a now-viral video suggesting a few ways to style a pair of olive-colored cargo. The video – which is set to an audio clip remixed by Euphoria –it has received nearly 10 million views and 3 million likes.

“These pieces are super basic and can be worn with anything!” Exclaimed the creator in the caption.
A different TikTok user also shared a few more ways to style pants for the upcoming season — this time, focusing on the occasion.
“How to style long cargo pants casual, edgy and classy,” the video’s description read.
Instagram has also been awash in the cargo pants invasion, with nearly 800,000 photos of people posing in the pants shared on the platform with the hashtag #cargopants.
Among the hundreds of associated hashtags, two others – #cargopantoutfit and #cargopant (misspelled) – have also grown to include thousands of images and outfit inspiration. Different variations of cargo pants can even be found scattered across #falfashiontrends and #falfashion explore pages.
So, while we’re all inevitably swayed to go out and buy a pair of these very comfortable-looking pants, let’s remember who true style icons are-Avril Lavigne AND Kim Possible.
