LOWELL, Mass. – Still searching for a first conference win, the UMass Lowell women’s basketball team (1-12, 0-3 AE) will travel to Burlington, Vermont to take on the Vermont Catamounts (10-6, 2-2 AE) on Wednesday morning. Tip-off is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Patrick Gym.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks fell to 0-3 in conference play after dropping a 62-38 home contest to UAlbany on January 7. Amaya Dowdy led the team with 15 points, 7 rebounds and three blocks. The sophomore now has double-digit points in the last three games and five of the last six games. Jaliena Sanchez added nine points, four rebounds and three assists. UMass Lowell struggled from the floor in the second and third quarters against the Great Danes but shot 42% and 54% from the field in the first and fourth quarters, respectively. The River Hawks will look to build off that success and put together a complete game to pick up a first America East win this season.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont was picked third in the preseason conference poll and after a sluggish start to the season, the Catamounts have a 10-6 overall record. They have win seven of the last ten games and have won back-to-back conference games against Bryant and UNH. The Catamounts fell to UAlbany and UMBC earlier this season for a 2-2 conference mark thus far. Emma Utterback leads the team averaging 14.1 points per game and leads Vermont with 70 assists and 15 steals in 16 games. The Catamounts have 48 blocks this season, with Aryana Dizon leading the way with 14 through 16 appearances off the bench.
A WIN WOULD
A win would be a 10th win over Vermont in program history. A win would also be the first conference win of the season for the River Hawks.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Jain Edmonds and Ivory Finley lead the team averaging 9.4 and 9.1 points per game, respectively. Kaylen Banwareesingh is averaging 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Edmonds’ 18 made threes is also a team high. Ivory Finley and Jaliena Sanchez lead the team with 19 steals each this season. Amaya Dowdy has totaled 21 blocks to lead the team, including five against Fairleigh Dickinson. Dowdy is also shooting a team-high 43% this season on 42-97 shooting. Jaliena Sanchez has seen the most game action of all River Hawks this season, averaging 36.2 minutes per game through 12 contests.
WATCH THOSE HANDS
Through 13 games this season, UMass Lowell has tallied 92 steals. Ivory Finley and Jaliena Sanchez lead the team with 19 each while Milli Career has 11 and Kaylen Banwareesingh, Ella Down and Jain Edmonds have 10 each. As a unit, UMass Lowell had a season-best 14 steals against Boston University.
CONFERENCE RANKS
The River Hawks rank first in the conference in blocks per game with 3.6 through thirteen games. Amaya Dowdy leads the league averaging 1.6 blocks per game. Ivory Finley sits fourth in the league in free throw percentage shooting 78% from the charity stripe. As a unit, UMass Lowell is second in the conference shooting 74% from the line. The team also is third in the league with 7.2 steals per game.
FREE THROWS
UMass Lowell is 74% from the free throw line as a unit and second in the league. Jaliena Sanchez has made 32 of her 43 attempts and Ivory Finley is 35-45. Jain Edmonds is near perfect from the stripe at 18-19 and Amaya Dowdy is 18-25 this season.
