GREENSBORO, NC (theACC.com) -Miami’s Alexa Noel earned the first ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award for the 2022-23 season, while teammate Mia Mack and Georgia Tech’s Alexandra Cruz earned ACC Co-Freshman of the Week honors.
Noel went 3-0 on the week at No. 1 singles, picking up a pair of top-35 wins over Vanderbilt’s No. 33 Celia-Belle Mohr, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. No. 23 Amelia Rajecki of NC State, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. The redshirt sophomore, ranked No. 14 nationally in singles and doubles, dropped just one set in singles play at the Miami Spring Invitational.
Mack finished the weekend 2-1 after facing three of the top-20 teams in the country: Texas, No. 3 NC State and No. 20 Vanderbilt. The native of Lochgau, Germany won singles against NC State and teamed with junior Isabella Pennig to win the aggregate against the third-ranked Wolfpack.
In Carolina kickoffs, Cruz finished 2-1 in both singles and doubles. She recorded two three-set victories over players from RV Wake Forest and Wisconsin. The Mexico City, Mexico native went 2-1 on aggregate with teammate Kylie Bilchev. The pair’s only win came against the top-ranked Wisconsin doubles team before they took two wins to close out the tournament.
