CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Dawn Murray, known as the Cheesecake Lady in the Cedar Rapids area, says she’s been struggling with high costs since the bird flu sent egg prices soaring in April.

Now inflation has hit her too.

“I want to continue to provide the same product, the same quality,” Murray said.

But she hasn’t increased her price yet.

“We’ll see what happens. I mean, I’m guessing I’ll have to raise my prices eventually. I’m trying not to think. If I bring them up, it’s because I have to. Like I said, I’ve been trying not to overdo it as much as possible, but I do buy very high quality ingredients. And everything went up. So if I did, it was because I had no choice,” Murray said.

Sandrine Wallace, owner of Sandrine’s French Cakes, said she was affected by the rising inflation.

Wallace also hasn’t raised her prices, but she wants her customers to be aware of one thing as record inflation continues.

“If I have to do it, I’ll do it. It’s not because I want more money. It’s because I want my business to survive,” Wallace said.

Wallace and Murray said they are grateful to everyone for their continued support.

“Macaroons aren’t a priority in their lives, so if they keep coming back, it means a little more in their lives. So, I’m very honored,” Wallace said.

“I’m really honored. And I’m surprised because my cheesecakes are expensive, I feel like a luxury item. And people are still willing to buy them… I’m honored to be,” said Mere.
