A store owner was shot out of his business with a BB gun

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A south Nashville business owner has captured video of himself being hit by a car with a BB gun.

Hundreds of cars drive down Nolensville Pike every day, but the owners of Total Rad Toy House say they’re worried for customers after a man fired a BB gun from inside their car.

For more than two years, Matthew Powell and LJ Landrum sold toys on the Nolensville Pike. Powell moves toys out of their storage office every week to keep the store up and running, but said he got the shock of his life Wednesday afternoon.

“I felt some people whip me and I was like, ‘Ouch, what was that?’ I was like,” Powell said.

As Powell walked into the store with his back to loading boxes, he said someone fired a BB gun at him.

“We looked at the camera and yes, someone was driving by and shot me with a pellet gun,” Powell said.

In surveillance footage from the front of the store, a black SUV can be seen driving a man with a toy gun out the window. A second later, Powell is seen clutching his back in pain.

“He picked up his shirt and he had two red spots on both sides of the lower back that you could say had been hit with a pellet, white with a red center,” Landrum said.

When Powell and Landrum called Metro Police, an officer told them there wasn’t much they could do because the license plate number on the video was unclear.

“He said even if they found the vehicle, the guy might say it’s not me, it’s my kids,” Landrum said.

WSMV asked Metro Police for the third time about people being shot with BB guns, but they told me it’s not a growing issue. Now it’s Matthew’s response to his customers that worries him.

“If there’s a lot going on, it definitely needs to be investigated because there are kids or anyone who could lose an eye or be seriously injured because of this and it’s completely harmless,” Powell said.

Store owners are now just warning you to keep an eye out and hope the police will act soon.
