Apple has expanded the scope of its repair program in the US by adding the M1 Mac desktops and Studio Display to production.
The Cupertino giant technology company launched the program last year to enable customers to repair Apple devices by providing the necessary parts and components.
It initially replaced the iPhone 12 and 13 screens, battery and camera. It then extended the program to the iPhone SE, and in August this year introduced support for the M1-based MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops.
Ahead of self-repair, in 2019, Apple launched a program that allowed independent repair shops to purchase replacement parts, tools and manuals from the company.
Apple surprised everyone with its program of never allowing its customers to repair its products. Some say the tech giant is responding to a right-to-repair crisis in the U.S. that has called for President Joe Biden to fix customers’ devices themselves.
It has since expanded to France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany and Sweden, with more countries to follow.
Support for M1-Mac desktops and Studio Monitor is limited to the US for now.
