The Cherry Lounge reopened Monday after interior repairs on the roof were completed.

Cherry Lounge reopened Monday following a sprinkler system problem that forced the restaurant to temporarily close.

Dawn Constantine, manager of the Cherry Lounge, said the restaurant’s reopening was a success despite the Halloween holiday keeping many people from dining at the restaurant on Monday.

“It went well.” She said. “It was Halloween, so a lot of people went trick-or-treating indoors, but we were busy, so no complaints.”

Cherry Lounge has been unexpectedly closed for two weeks since mid-October due to sprinkler system problems caused by other tenants in the building at 326 Cherry St.

“It was a sprinkler system that went off by mistake.” Constantine said. “There were some people doing some work on the property above us and they hit a sprinkler head and all of a sudden it went off.”

The sprinkler system caused water to flow into the restaurant’s dining room, storage room and ladies’ room. Constantinos said the restaurant had to replace the roof due to the water damage. That is why the restaurant has been closed for two weeks.

Constantine said it was a challenge to complete the renovations and clean everything thoroughly before the restaurant opened Monday. The restaurant lost business for two weeks, making it difficult for the restaurant to navigate the costs of inflation, supply chain issues and lower wages. However, Constantine said he hopes the restaurant’s insurance will help cover the costs associated with the restaurant’s temporary closure.

Constantine said the reopening of the Cherry Lounge was a response from the community. “Very Positive”

“I posted on Facebook that we were reopening, and all the responses were very positive.” She said.

After being in business for 38 years, Constantine said they have been members of the community. “Happy” To hear the news that the restaurant has reopened.

“People were excited that we were going back to business.” She said.

The community’s continued support of Cherry Lounge means a lot to Constantine.

“We’ve had some great customers who have been very supportive of us over the years and we really appreciate the business.” She said. “He’s kept us going and hopefully will continue for many years to come.”
