Chandler, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – John Shavina has owned and operated Chandler Auto Repair Shop for over ten years.
“We specialize in electrical and computer repairs. Things like that,” Schavina said. Part of being a business owner means opening company mail, which Shavina does every day. Recently, he said he received a letter of concern in the mail. There were nine different cards from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, all with company addresses but addressed to nine different names. “The card says go online, and it’s in Spanish. You click it and it’s done,” said Shavina.
He said the cards piqued his interest because none of the names especially Soto, Garcia or Hernandez rang a bell in his mind. He said he had never employed people with those last names before and wanted to know why the county was sending the cards to his job. “I don’t understand why they are coming to my address or why these names are being associated with my address,” said Shavina. Contact the Maricopa County Registrar’s Office, which is responsible for voter registration and early voting on your side.
A spokeswoman said in an email that they rely on information collected from the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles about people who are “not registered to vote, are 18 years old and are United States citizens.” Additionally, some MVD data may be out of date which is a “result. [s] In many postcards sent to incorrect or outdated addresses. He also said, “Voters must still meet registration requirements and provide proof of citizenship.”
Shavina says he is happy to hear that MVD knows and reached the end by your side. “That’s why I talked to you [On Your Side]. So that you can examine it and say, ‘Hey, why?’ I wanted you to see that.
Arizona MVD says the nine people featured on those postcards applied for and received ID cards 30 years ago, starting in 1991. Since 1990, there has been no MVD activity from them to update the old data.
