Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host two teams on opposite ends of the college football pyramid on Monday when No. 4 Clemson takes on ACC rival Georgia Tech.
The Tigers are coming off a year of qualifying; They finished 10-3. The focus will be on junior quarterback DJ Ugalele, whose 2021 struggles have been well-documented. Waiting in the wings is five-star recruit Cade Klubnik, a player head coach Dabo Swinney indicated will get a big push this season.
Yougalley starts on Monday and a strong showing could go a long way to putting space between him and the No. 1 guy on the depth chart.
The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand, are far from the team that finished in the top 15 every season from 2005 to 2012. Georgia Tech is one of the ACC’s underdogs after mustering just three wins over the past three years.
Given the talent disparity, it’s no surprise that Clemson entered the game as the heavy favorite. The Tigers’ front seven is loaded, led by junior defensive tackle Brian Bracey, senior defensive tackle Tyler Davis and junior defensive end Myles Murphy. That line should have more than enough to beat a Yellow Jackets offensive line that has struggled to defend over the past few seasons.
