Zohaib Qazi, a software engineer and project manager, has been appointed director of the IT transformation program in the Office of the Executive President and Chief Business Officer, effective August 16. Qazi replaced David Crotz, director of financial management and business operations. Since March, he has served as interim IT transformation program director in the finance department.
Qazi comes to the university from California State University, Northridge, where he most recently served as director of human resources information systems.
“We are excited to have Zohaib join the Virginia Tech team in this important role. He has come here with a lot of valuable experience and insight. Chris Cuse, interim senior vice president and chief business officer said. “I look forward to working with him to help build consensus across the various teams that come together to implement IT transformation goals.”
The IT transformation aims to strengthen projects across Virginia Tech in six focus areas: IT governance, finance, human resources, technology capabilities, service management and cybersecurity. As Program Director, Qazi is responsible for managing the overall program, coordinating multiple projects and ensuring progress on IT transformation goals. This includes developing program evaluation protocols, advising on budget and resource allocation, and actively participating in change management to effectively implement new processes and protocols.
Qazi brings experience in strategic planning, changing and implementing new business processes, and solving complex IT issues.
“Zohaib enters the role of interim program director with a strong foundation built under the leadership of interim program director David Crotts with several ongoing projects,” said Scott Midkiff, vice president of information technology and chief information officer. “Zohaib’s expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we transition existing projects to full implementation and embark on a number of new and challenging projects.”
Qazi holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from California State University and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Sindh Jamshoro University, Pakistan.

Successes from the IT transformation program will accelerate in the coming months as more projects come online and existing projects begin to revive.
