BILLINGS – An Apsaalooke designer has come a long way from launching her fashion line from her sewing machine to her kitchen table.
Angela Howe-Parrish will soon be heading to New York City Fashion Week and Paris Indigenous Fashion Week. All this within a few months after she officially launched her business in May this year.
“It’s a dream. It’s been a dream and I can’t believe it’s happening. When I got the letter I was crying,” said Howe-Parrish, designer, owner and founder of Choke Cherry Creek.
There were tears of joy for Howe-Parrish as she read the news. Two invitations to show her work this fall on the runway, one in New York City and one in Paris.
News has Howe-Parrish very busy sewing and beading with Rise New York Fashion Week and Paris Indigenous Fashion Week fast approaching. The New York event is September 9th and the Paris event is October 1st.
Choke Cherry Creek patterns feature Crow bead patterns and colors inspired by beadwork collections in local museums and family collections.
“All tribes are different and we have different designs. I as a beader can say it is the black feet design, this is a Crow flower design, we have geometric crow designs, we use certain colors, even in our bead work, we don’t use black but some tribal use it,” said Howe-Parrish. .
A nod to her mother Donna as Howe-Parrish showcases the Donna pencil case in her Honoring Our Mother collection. Her first-ever collection, along with several hand-stitched style pieces, is set to hit the runway and a global audience this fall.
“This is just one skirt I made to go with some of her (her ready-to-wear line), so this is going to be a big skirt. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet. I’m just like this looks good, or I’m going to do this. I always ask for information from my daughter”.
It’s truly a family affair, as her famous rapper and dancer husband Supaman opens her runway shows.
“He’ll come out dancing and then I’ll do the fashion show,” she said.
