Japan intends to stockpile more than 1,000 long-range missiles, according to a report

Japan is considering acquiring an arsenal of more than 1,000 long-range missiles. Yomiuri The newspaper reported, citing unidentified people familiar with the plans.

According to the article, the project will be distributed mainly in Nansei Islands and Kyushu. By doing so, Japan seeks to close the “missile gap” of having about 300 cruise missiles and 1,900 ballistic missiles, the newspaper reported.

Japan began a program a few years ago to increase its missile capabilities in the face of potential threats from China and North Korea. The recent increase in Japanese stockpiles follows China’s military exercises in the waters and airspace around Taiwan after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island.

In addition, Japan plans to increase the capability of its domestically produced Type 12 surface-to-air missile to hit targets at a range of more than 1,000 kilometers. Yomiuri He reported.
