Without question, Kim Kardashian has been making some pretty bold (and slightly weird) fashion choices lately. She’s never been boring with choices like her revealing/gravity-defying dress and head-to-toe leather suits and fetish masks, and now she’s cooked up another wild new trend through her brand SKIMS, but will hard life. not for me: swimming gloves.
Yes, these are called “swimming gloves.” The Hulu star is selling these nylon/sandex gloves you can (theoretically) wear to the beach in seven different colors for $48 at SKIMS. (opens in new tab). Check out the pink ones below, which are eerily reminiscent of Kim Kardashian’s jawlines. SNL clothing monologue:
The function of these underwater ballroom accessories, you may ask? Well, just that, apparently: accessorizing. The item’s description on the site suggests they will “instantly elevate your swim look.” It also claims users will make a “sexy splash.”
Let’s stop there, because there’s no way a farmer’s reverse tan can make a “sexy splash.” I mean, at least speaking for myself, that’s what’s going to happen moi if I wanted to ride this new trend at my local pool or beach. And just as an example, it’s not like we’re seeing Kim Kardashian chilling with Pete Davidson wearing her product, is it? I dismiss the case.
Sadly, though, fashion that breaks the rules is what Kim Kardashian is after and why she even took home the fashion icon award at the People’s Choice Awards 2022. She’s been pushing the envelope with her style in recent months, to include layering different designer names and featuring what can only be described as shoe tights. Some say it’s the 41-year-old’s way of rejecting her old influences Kanye West in her wardrobe after their split, which she even admitted was the case in Season 1 of The Kardashians. But I say the billionaire elite can keep the swim gloves and shoe tights (along with the tough summer tan lines they’ll produce).
However, we have to hand it to the TV personality for her business acumen. At the time of writing, SKIMS swim gloves are sold in all sizes for four colors to choose from. So, obviously, someone (who isn’t me) is buying what this trend is selling. In addition, Kim Kardashian is making other moves, such as updating the design of her signature bodywear collection (courtesy of Khloe Kardashian’s complaints) and rebranding her skin care line. (The latter has already been hit with a trademark infringement lawsuit.)
I’ll be watching to see when Kim Kardashian dons the swim gloves in season 2 of the Kardashian – which premieres on September 22 for Hulu subscribers. But until then, thank goodness for bronzer.
