In less than a week, the ACC will unveil its much-anticipated 2023 football schedule, which will introduce the 3-3-5 model and eliminate the Atlantic and Coast divisions.

Rutgers

Coming off a 4-8 record (1-8 B1G) and heading into his 14th season as a head coach, Greg Chiano has brought back some familiar faces to the coaching staff in hopes of posting his first winning season since 2015. In the year Ciarocca, who has more than 30 years of coaching experience, returns to Piscataway after serving on Schiano’s staff for three seasons and winning two bowl games from 2008-10. In the year Dave Brock was announced Jan. 19 as the new wide receivers coach, joining Schiano and Ciarrocca. Brock returns to the Scarlet Knights after a five-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons (2017-21) in the same role.

Marshall

In his second season as head coach, Charles Huff led the Thunder to a 9-4 record (5-3 Sun Belt), which ranked then-No. 8 Notre Dame and their first bowl win since 2018. This will be the first time the two have met since their 2018 makeup game against Hurricane Florence, which the Hokies won 41-10. Returning to Marshall’s defense are a pair of All-Sun Belt Conference first-team selections in defensive lineman Owen Porter and defensive back Micah Abraham. Porter leads the Sun Belt with 9.5 sacks, while Abraham leads the Thunder with five interceptions and eight pass breakups. The two anchor a Marshall defense that ranks third in the nation in first down conversion rate (23.5%), third in team passing efficiency (104.67) and fifth in rushing defense (93.0).

Boston College
The Eagles (3-9, 2-6 ACC) offense looks a lot different this time around. Boston College has parted ways with former offensive coordinator John McNulty after one season. The Eagles had the worst rushing attack in the FBS with just 63 rushing yards (131st 131). In terms of the air attack, Boston College will lose star wide receiver Zay Flowers to the NFL draft. Flowers threw for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns in the 2022 season, earning him first-team ALL-ACC and third-team Associated Press All-America honors. One player head coach Jeff Hafley is excited to have back is forward Christian Mahogany. The redshirt junior missed the entire 2022 season with a torn ACL, but in his 2021 campaign, he started 11 games and earned ACC second-team honors.



State of Florida
Coming off a third straight 10-3 season (5-3 ACC) and a 35-32 win over Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl, head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles are looking to compete for a national championship. Despite losing several key players through the transfer window and the NFL Draft, they made their intentions clear by turning in the second-highest transfer class in the country, according to 247Sports. In other changes, Norvell hired NFL veteran Patrick Surte Sr. as defensive backs coach. In his 11 seasons in the NFL, Surtain was a two-time All-Pro, named to the Pro Bowl three times and was the 2002 NFL Alumni Association’s Defensive Back of the Year. The key returner for the Seminoles is quarterback Jordan Travis, who threw for 3,214 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. Travis became the 11th quarterback in program history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season, the first since Deondre Francois accomplished the feat in 2016.



Louisville
The Cardinals (8-5, 4-4 ACC) entered a new chapter after hiring Jeff Brohm to become the 24th head coach in program history. Brohm returned to his alma mater as one of the most iconic signal callers in Louisville football history. Brohm comes to Purdue after six seasons as head coach, leading the Boilermakers to four bowl appearances and the school’s first Big Ten West Division title in 2022. With him, he brings a coaching staff full of former Cardinals, such as former quarterback Bryan. Brohm as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and former tight end Richard Owens as offensive line coach. Two key returnees from the pre-Brohm era include the safety duo of sophomore MJ Griffin and Josh Minkins, who combined for 100 tackles and three interceptions.



Virginia
The Commonwealth Games are set to resume after the 2022 game was canceled following the tragic deaths of Virginia players Lavelle Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and DeSean Perry. Virginia will look to bounce back from a 3-7 (1-6 ACC) record and will look to second-year head coach Tony Elliott for guidance. The Cavaliers lost top quarterback Brennan Armstrong to the transfer portal, but added another top quarterback in Tony Muskett to take his place. In eight games last season, the Monmouth transfer threw for 1,997 yards and 17 touchdowns. In his freshman year, the Springfield, Virginia native was named the 2020-21 Big South Offensive Freshman of the Year after throwing for 1,039 yards and nine touchdowns in four games. Although it will be the 104th match between the two rivals, this will be the head coaches’ first Commonwealth clash. Brent Pr and Tony Elliott.
