Marine Serre continues to make a grand presentation with its Fall/Winter 2023 presentation at Paris Fashion Week, taking over the Grande Halle de La Villette.
Upon entering the venue, spectators are immediately greeted with a mystical and poetic atmosphere. Three towers of different materials were dimly lit in the center of the stage, including that denim and cotton t-shirt, a comment on sustainability no doubt, setting the tone for the show. The set resembles a scale model of a dystopian future, where the guests seem to envision themselves as the shelter of tomorrow—that is, the growing shelter—that Marine Serre supports to fight together and foster an improved society. .
More than half of the guests who attended were given free admission so that the masses could experience and explore the alternative views and visions that are transforming the fashion industry. Models of all shapes, sizes and ages walked the runway, a reflection of what’s really out there in the world. The collection contained five sections. The first saw the house showcase a selection of cream, white and beige tones in earth-friendly cotton clothing, featuring house motifs and symbols in unisex designs that include bowling shirts, coats, trucker jackets, skirts and shirts.
Familiar archetypes continued to appear in new offerings created from gray and black denim, home lines, goods and leather. The now iconic moiré that is synonymous with the house was seen crafted from recycled fishing lines and nets. A rebellious nature was prominent throughout the collection, featuring leather accessories for a Motorcross-inspired tone. Elegance was brought to the runway with tailored suits, body-splashing patches and fur-knit designs. A feminine approach to silhouettes emphasized curves to create complex yet minimal silhouettes.
