Metro Detroit fashion designer competes in ArtPrize

A Metro Detroit designer has shown her work at New York Fashion Week, participated in more than 50 fashion shows, and now she’s preparing to enter an international art competition.

Designer Cheryl Zemke’s submission was accepted for the upcoming ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids. Zemke will present a three-part installation during the competition, which celebrates artists from around the world. The piece that inspired Zemke’s collection is called “Sunflower Souls of Ukraine.” The design of the dress includes more than 580 silk sunflowers and other flowers. It took Zemka about two months to complete the dress. Zemke’s ArtPrize installation will be on display at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids. The ArtPrize competition runs from September 15th to October 2nd.

While appearing on “Live In The D,” Zemke showed off some of her other designs, including an outfit that was shown at New York Fashion Week in September 2021. The bottom of the dress features an embroidered design Detroit skyline hand drawn.
