Mountaineers Travel to Hawaii for Outrigger Volleyball Challenge


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-1) travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, for a three-match tournament from Sept. 1-4, at the Simplifi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

WVU opens play against No. 23 UCLA (1-1) on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 10:45 p.m. ET. The squad faces host Hawaii (0-3) on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 1 a.m., and West Virginia wraps up the tournament against Texas State on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 8:45 p.m.

The Mountaineers and Bruins meet for the second time in program history on Thursday, with both meetings taking place in Hawaii. Last time versus UCLA, freshman Natalie Winter played in every set and registered the second service ace of her collegiate career.

WVU also faces Hawaii for the second time in program history, with both meetings taking place in Hawaii as well. In West Virginia’s last match against Hawaii, the Mountaineers came out strong to take the first set before falling in set four.

Of note, West Virginia opened its last tournament in Hawaii by facing UCLA and Hawaii in 2019.

The Mountaineers wrap up the tournament on Sunday, as they take on the Bobcats for the second time in program history, with their last match taking place on Sept. 5, 2011.
