AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – iPhone iOS 16 is now available and if you’re wondering what it looks like, look no further.
A big part of the new features, and probably what most people like the most, has everything to do with how the iPhone lock screen looks when you’re not using it.
iOS 16 allows users to customize the lock screen with new images, fonts and widgets. To use this, hard press the lock screen and tap ‘Customize’ at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll see options to change the font for the date and time, colors, and filters. This allows you to make your phone look like someone else’s.
You can choose from wallpapers by Apple or use your own photo. You can also add widgets to the lock screen. Instead of just seeing the date at the top of the screen, you can choose from several options to add temperature and weather.
Below the time display, you have five other areas for widgets. You can choose to show your Apple Watch battery indicator, activity, weather, stock prices, news and calendar events.
Although there are five possible widget spaces, some widgets take up more real estate.
Apple listened, and the battery indicator is back in iOS 16. Go to Settings and find ‘Battery’ and turn on the indicator. Now when you look at your phone, it will show how much battery you have in the top right corner of the screen.
In Apple Mail, you can now send an email later. To send later in the day or evening, press and hold the Send button, or set your date and time for it to go out.
Now you can record the text in videos. We made a video showing the titles and authors of my bookshelf. When playing the video in the Photos app, you can tap and hold to select any text that appears in the video.
After tapping the screen, you’ll see options to copy the text, which you can paste into emails, notes, and messages. One of the cool features of iOS 16 is the ability to take pictures. We have a photo in my camera roll of deer. Tap and hold the photo to see the recording option. Like magic, Apple removes the background, so all you see is the subject.
When we go to paste the image into a text, note or email, the image appears without a background. Did you send an unwanted text? Send it before or after reading them.
Just find the text message and click Edit or Delete. You have 15 minutes to take it back. How many times have you or someone else taken a group photo and suddenly only shot 10-15 of them?
In iOS 16, iPhone requires duplicates in the camera roll. In the Photos app, you can scroll down to find the ‘Duplicate’ option, which shows photos that all contain the same metadata or look similar.
You will have the option to merge the photos together which will keep the best and delete the rest. This behavior was not 100% correct for me. Perhaps Apple will improve it with the next update, iOS 16.1, which will be released in the next few weeks.
