A selection of new images from the first episode of Quantum Leap‘s 2022 reboot have been released, teasing the show’s first time-traveling adventure. The reboot of the sci-fi series that aired from 1989 to 1993 stars Raymond Lee as time-leaping scientist Ben Seong. The Quantum Leap reboot is set to air on NBC on September 19th, 2022.
Almost 29 years after Scott Bakula’s Dr. Samuel Beckett’s time traveling misadventures concluded with a mysterious cliffhanger, Quantum Leap is set to return to screens with a new cast of characters rebooting Project Quantum Leap. Hoping to get a better understanding of the amazing technology as well as the fate of Beckett, Dr. Ben Seong begins his own time-traveling adventures, leaping into the lives of individuals across various historical periods to solve mysteries and preserve the timeline. Ahead of the Quantum Leap reboot’s premiere, NBC has released a number of images that tease the new season’s first journey to the past.
The Images come from the premiere episode of Quantum Leap‘s reboot, “July 13th, 1985,” and tease the episode’s story. Many of the images see Lee’s Ben and Caitlin Bassett’s holographic Addison exploring the 1985 setting, with Ben having to navigate a heist-gone-wrong involving high-society dances, briefcases filled with explosives, and a mysterious, highly desirable necklace. A number of images also tease the present-day storyline of the rest of the scientists at the revived Project Quantum Leap, with Addison, Nanrisa Lee’s Jen, Mason Alexander Park’s Ian, and Ernie Hudson’s Herbert “Magic” Williams overseeing Ben’s current status, hoping to help him return home. NBC has released a number of short teasers previously that offer glimpses at the various places and periods that Ben’s misadventures could take him. First released in August 2022, one teaser features Ben leaping into the body of a paratrooper in a military aircraft in 1991. Before Ben can get used to his current situation, he is forced to drop out of the plane into Kuwait, as he is caught in the midst of the Gulf War during Operation Desert Storm. Other promotional clips see Ben leap into the body of a female punk-band singer in Los Angeles in 1986 before she’s set to perform on stage. While the promotional clips don’t give away specific details or in which order each adventure may take place, they do give a good insight into the series’ core concept for new audiences.
While Quantum Leap‘s first trailer teased the premiere episode, the newly released images have offered fans a better glimpse of what the first story will be. As seen in the images, it can be assumed that Ben’s first leap will see him have to not only evade the law after the heist but prevent the explosives from being detonated and causing harm. The images also tease that Ben’s fellow scientists in the present day will also receive a fair share of screentime across the reboot as they try to bring him home, giving both returning fans and new audiences a good idea of what to expect from Quantum Leap‘s new adventures.
