Blue Cross Blue Shield Wyoming (BCBSWY), an insurer serving more than 100,000 members, is the latest organization to dip its toes into automated prior authorization (PA) processes.
The charity announced this month a partnership with Etility Health, a startup helping health insurance payers streamline PA processes, drive healthcare innovation and create cost-effective efficiencies in the state of Wyoming.
As the nation’s largest insurance provider with more than four million members, Blue Shield plays a major role in the adoption of technology in the medical field, and this is not the first time for startups. A not-for-profit health insurer with over $20 billion in revenue.
The company’s chief innovation officer, Jeff Semenchuk, said Blue Shield is working to create a new health care system, “not to perpetuate our current health care system.”
Startups are playing an increasingly important role in that healthcare overhaul.
PA checkpointTM It is the first cloud-based SaaS product from Etility Health that allows providers to quickly and reliably determine whether they need to submit a PA claim without contacting the health insurance company.
The partnership creates a faster way to reduce costs and administrative work by automating the first step of the PA process. PA checkpointTM It has been shown to reduce overall deliveries by 30%, call volumes by 20% and call handling time by 15%.
