The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored a week-long Youth Conservation Camp (YCC) at Virginia Tech this summer for two high school students. Marina Morris, a ninth-grader at Fuqua High School, and Nia Davis, a tenth-grader at Prince Edward County High School, applied and were granted this opportunity.

“YCC was really fun and helped me learn more about my desired career path,” Morris said. They have many practical activities and can talk to many people from different local occupations. I encourage anyone interested in a career path with nature and ecology to apply for this camp.

Davis added that she learned a lot.

Since it was my first time, my favorite activity was canoeing.

All high school students who live in Amelia, Nottoway or Prince Edward County are eligible for this opportunity. Check PSWCD’s website or Facebook page in the spring for application and camp details. www.piedmontswcd.org
