LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raider women’s tennis team heads to Fort Worth, Texas for their first spring tournament against the Horned Frogs at the TCU Invitational from January 7th to January 9th.
Red Raiders send freshmen ranked in Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings Yekaterina Dmitrichenko And Arina OrshchenkovaSecond stage Avelina Syfetdinova and junior Camryn Steph to the tournament to compete against student-athletes from TCU, Tarleton State, SMU and Central Arkansas.
Dmitrichenko is coming off the fall season leading the Red Raiders with seven singles wins while adding six doubles wins. Orshchenkova will join Dmitrichenko, another freshman making the trip to Fort Worth, and is set to make her tournament debut in the scarlet and black.
Entering the fall season ranked ITA No. 67, Saiftdinova went 6-3 in doubles and added three more singles wins. Those singles victories included a victory over No. 59 Marlee Zane of Texas at the Bayer Invitational and No. 63 Page Freeman of Notre Dame at the ITA All-American Championships. There, she won the dual title at the Baylor Invite after posting a perfect 5-0 record.
Stepp collected 10 total wins during the fall season (five singles and five doubles). She ended the streak by going 3-1 in the tournament and winning her singles flight at the Big 12 Invitational. She won the title with wins over Kailyn Sadler (Kansas), Amber Hochstatter (Oklahoma State) and Vanessa Suarez (Kansas State).
About the competition/schedule
The TCU Invitational will be held outdoors, weather permitting, and will be moved indoors in the event of inclement weather. Live stats and live video are not available for the tournament. Follow @TexasTechWTEN on Twitter for updates and the matchups.
