Virginia Tech is among the few to…

Four-star CB Assad Brown Jr. out of 757 powerhouse Oscar Smith HS is one of the top 10 recruits in the state for the Class of 2024 and is a top All-America prospect. As the focus shifts to the 2024 cycle, are some schools starting to stand out to him?

“I have a few that stand out. Now that the signing is over, I’ll see who really wants me to be a part of their program,” Brown said.

Brown added that Virginia Tech was one of the schools that said why the Hokies stood out to him.

“(CBs) coach (Derrick) Jones and I meet a lot, and I feel like Virginia Tech can get back to that, especially with the history of the DBs,” Brown said.

When we asked him about his relationship with CBS coach Derek Jones, he talked about both his relationship with Jones and his trust in the VT staff in general.

“You know how I feel about Tech. I’m seeing a lot of my peers across the state trust the staff and I’m building strong relationships with them,” Brown said. “Coach Jones is a down to earth guy and we talk a lot about life, not just football.”

Tech’s main interest in Brown shouldn’t come as a surprise after he had a solid junior season with 2 interceptions, 1 pick 6, 9 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles and 64 tackles. Brown added that he’s allowed just 3 games of 20+ yards all season, including no passing plays and no fumbles.

So how does Brown describe his strengths and weaknesses?

“I feel like I’m more focused. 7v7 has helped me slow down the game. I’m improving on eye discipline and trusting my speed more. I felt like I had a good season overall, but I always feel like I need to improve,” said Brown.

This season, he has set his goals for his development.

“Stay focused and work. I’m headed to college this time next year so body modification and speed work are my focus,” Brown said.

Looking ahead, Brown told us he plans to visit several schools, including Virginia Tech, Florida State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, NC State and Mississippi State. He added that he plans to visit Mississippi schools in February and expects to visit most of the schools during the 7v7 season.

So when does Brown plan to make his decision?

“As soon as I feel a program is right, I execute it,” Brown said.

He added this to what he wanted in the college of his choice.

“A development that can play at the next level. I also want to be a part of a winning culture,” Brown said.

Virginia Tech is off to a great start with the recruitment of four-star CB Asad Brown Jr. The Hokies hope to develop Brown as a star piece in their 2024 class.
