Technology hiring will increase as companies continue their hiring pace, CompTIA’s monthly job report analysis found


Tech industry job openings now stretch to 21 consecutive months

Downers Grove, ill., September 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — New employment data shows employers are growing their technology teams, confirming technology’s important role in the business and industry workforce, according to COMTIA, the information technology (IT) industry and workforce nonprofit association.

Tech sector companies added 25,500 net new employees in August, with growth in five major job categories, CompTIA’s analysis of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) “Employment Situation” report shows. The technology industry is projected to increase by 175,700 jobs by 2022 and is on track to grow 46 percent from last year and 92 percent from 2019.

Companies across the economy added approximately 21,000 technology workers for the month. [1] The unemployment rate for technology occupations reached 2.3%, in line with the national unemployment rate (3.7%).

“Stability in technology hiring continues to be a major concern this year,” he said Tim Herbert.According to CompTIA’s chief research officer, overall tech hiring remains consistently positive despite all the economic noise and pockets of layoffs.

Employer postings for technology positions eased in August, falling below 320,000. Companies require a variety of technology skills, including software development and engineering, IT support, IT project management, systems engineering, and network engineering.

Among industries, the largest number of job postings occurred in professional, scientific and technical services, finance and insurance, manufacturing, information and retail. Career opportunities in technology are available across the country, in large, medium and small markets. of New York City, Washington, Dallas, Chicago And Angels Metro areas had the most job postings for technology positions Allentown (PA), Raleigh (NC) and Columbus (OH) posted the largest month-over-month increase in tech job postings.

CompTIA’s analysis shows that telecommuting and working from home options continue to increase for technology workers. From January to August 2022Tech jobs where employers are reporting remote work are up 56% from last year and up 281% from pre-pandemic 2019.

New hiring in the IT services and custom software development job category, which expanded by 14,400 workers in the technology sector, boosted August’s job growth. Strong growth in computer and electronic products manufacturing (+4,500), data processing, hosting and related services (+3,200) and other information services, including search engines (+3,000). Telecommunications jobs increased modestly by 400.
