Texas business owner killed in car crash dispute – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Chin Shin, known to all as Jin, was shot and killed early Monday morning in Fort Worth.

It happened after a traffic accident led to an argument and ultimately a shooting at the intersection of South University Drive and Interstate 30 southbound.

“It’s been a roller coaster for everyone going through this for the last several days, but it’s been a very powerful experience to see what he’s built in terms of the community,” said friend Conrad Alagaban.

Shin’s sister and close friends spoke highly of him and his family karaoke business, where they praised his singing skills.

“He loved karaoke, he loved singing. In fact, if you can’t figure out what to do on a special night when he’s there, his first suggestion is to go karaoke,” says longtime friend Jack Chang.

Shin’s family moved from South Korea and planted roots in Dallas when he was young.

Shin was known for his kindness in donating money to the Korean-owned Hair World barbershop.

Police say the triple shooting at a Dallas, Texas hair salon, Hair Salon World, may be related to shootings at Asian-owned businesses.

He also worked diligently to help other businesses, the community, and especially his family during the outbreak.

“I’m an ICU nurse, and I remember him being very concerned. He gathered a lot of people, including my mom, and they all made masks and brought them all to the hospital,” said younger sister Kerry Sheen Mejia. “Those are the things he does. He didn’t tell me he was doing it. He just showed that he loves me.”

She is still reeling from the thought that an argument escalated into violence after an accident.

“This should never happen to anyone. A fender bender should never turn this way. I trust the investigators to do what they have to do and I know the truth will come out,” said Shin Mejia.

At this time, Fort Worth police have not made any arrests, the department confirmed.

Fundraising efforts are underway to help his daughter and family with funeral expenses.
