Pulse applies end-to-end encryption as long as the person you’re sending SMS to is using Pulse, and you can password protect certain conversations for added security. Chats can be pinned to the top of the interface or organized into folders, and there’s a powerful search feature here too—if you can’t remember exactly who said what and when, Pulse should be able to help.
When you send a message, there’s a lot of flexibility with support for scheduled messages, send delays, and auto-replies. You can return to messages later by snoozing, quickly composing messages with templates, and applying themes to your individual chats. Pulse SMS takes a lot from the basic SMS user experience.
Chomp SMS
Chomp SMS is more basic than Pulse SMS—but for most people, that will be perfectly fine. It focuses on the most important function of this application, which is sending and receiving SMS messages, it includes everything in a no-nonsense interface (if you want to add a little more intelligence, there are different application themes available).
That’s not to say there aren’t some useful features included in Chomp SMS. The Quick Reply feature lets you reply to text in a pop-up overlay, for example, so you don’t have to leave any app you’re in. You can and will lock the app behind a passcode for added privacy. If necessary, schedule messages to go out at a specific time and date.
There’s a built-in text backup option here too, but perhaps the best part of Chomp SMS is how you can customize the way you receive messages. Individual contacts can all be assigned their own ringtones and vibration patterns, so you’ll always know who’s calling without looking at your phone screen.
SMS organizer
SMS Organizer is a “garage project” from Microsoft, which means it’s a side hobby for its developers. While it doesn’t have the profile of the official Microsoft apps, SMS Organizer is still regularly updated with new features and has a lot to offer if you need a place for your SMS conversations to live on your Android phone.
For example, you can get automatically generated reminders from your SMS messages—about flights, bills, movie tours, or anything else that’s stored in text. You can back up texts, compose texts using your voice, and quickly scan your chat list to see which unread messages you need to prioritize.
We also love the variety of customization options available here. It’s easy to star messages to get back to them quickly and block spam in the app. All of this is wrapped up in a clean interface that makes even basic text look appealing.
