Officers responded to a transportation company on East Deseret Drive just before 2 p.m. Monday on a call of a verbal dispute at the business.

According to a probable cause statement filed in support of the arrest, 28-year-old Janvier Christopher Mason of North Hollywood, California, was reportedly involved in an argument with another employee. The reporting party only requested that the suspect be removed from the property.

While speaking with the employees, officers observed a man matching the description of the suspect walk away from the business down the street, he said. He continued to walk when officers advised him several times not to return to the business. But Mason kept going.

Less than 20 minutes later, officers returned to the business to report that the manager had called 911 to report that Mason had reappeared and was throwing rocks at several vehicles in the parking lot.

Officers arrived to find Mason heading south on foot on 3050 North East. Upon reaching the corner of Deseret Drive, the suspect was apprehended by police.

Meanwhile, officers manning the scene at the trucking business learned that there were more than one employee who saw Mason carrying several large rocks onto the property and throwing the rocks at the two vehicles.

At this point, an employee went outside and saw the suspect throw another rock through the windshield of a semitractor trailer parked in the lot. He saw Mason pick up another rock and throw it through the windshield of the truck tractors parked in the lot.

At the canvass of the lot, officials took photos of the damage from the incident, which included a car with a broken windshield and a Camaro with a large hole in the back window. There were also scratches and dents consistent with the rock behind the car, as well as a second vehicle with minor damage and a large rock lying next to the car.

Authorities said a third vehicle, a Jeep, had two large holes in the front windshield and “damage consistent with rocks being thrown at it,” the officer said. Scratches and dents that appear to have been created by a rock slide.

Mason was arrested and transported to Purgatory Penitentiary.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other respondents and may not contain the full scope of findings. Arrested or accused persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or otherwise determined by a court of law.
