The undefeated Red Raiders are set for the Adidas Invitational.


LUBBOCK, Texas. – In the year Fresh off their impressive start to 2014, the Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-0) head to Houston for the Adidas Invitational hosted by Rice University at Tudor Fieldhouse on September 9-11.

Tech will face Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m., then play Brown on Saturday at noon. To conclude the tournament, the Red Raiders will play the host team, Rice, on Sunday, September 11 at 2 p.m.

Tech is coming off a 4-0 week as the team blanked Tarleton State in its home opener, then picked up wins over College of Charleston, Charlotte and Georgia in the Bulldog Classic.

In the competition, two Red Raiders both reached the major stages Kenna Sauer And Reagan Cooper Each collected their 500th career kill. Sauer reached 500 in the match against Charlotte, Cooper had 15 kills, and Georgia had 500 kills.

Free secondary Maddie Correa She had a dominant week on defense, earning not only her first career Big 12 honor, but the Red Raiders’ first conference honor of the season on Tuesday as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. She has 66 digs (4.71 rpg), 18 assists and five aces in the last four matches. Additionally, Correa has tallied double-digit dig efforts in every match so far, making her the only Red Raider to do so.

Looking for opponents
Tech holds a perfect 3-0 record against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, with their last win coming on September 5, 2014. The Islanders come into Friday’s matchup with an 0-8 record, including some losses. Nebraska, Indiana and Pepperdine. As a team, the Isles are hitting .180 with 12.5 kills per set. He also recorded 332 assists, 25 aces, 407 digs and 42.5 blocks. Leah Stolfus leads the offense with 82 kills and 91.0 points. Karissa Barnes leads the team with 145 digs and Tayah Little leads the team with 20.0 blocks.

The Red Raiders will face an entirely new opponent for the third-straight week for the first time in program history when they take on the Brown Bears on Sept. 10. Brown is 2-2 with wins over Rhode Island and Siena. And losses to Air Force and Bryant. Overall, the Bears are hitting .240 and holding opponents to just a .129 hitting clip. Sophia Miller leads the team with 68 kills, Victoria Vo has a team-high 61 digs and Gabby Derrick totals 21.0 blocks.

Texas Tech holds a 27-10 record against former conference foe Rice, and the Red Raiders last beat them in 2016. It is August 25, 2018. The Red Raiders have also won the last two meetings. The Owls, who are receiving votes in the final AVCA poll, have a 5-1 record on the season, with their only loss coming against No. 18 Oregon. Rice is hitting .248 and holding opponents to a .138 hitting clip. Daniel Courtley (66) and Sahara Maruska (60) led the team in hitting, with two players totaling 60 or more kills. Defensively, Nia McCardell leads the way with 113 digs, while Satasha Kosteleki has 20.0 blocks.
