Salt Lake City – The Utah Tech football team suffered a road loss to the Sacramento State Hornets to open the 2022 season.
The Hornets host the Trail Blazers on Saturday, September 3rd.
Sacramento State beat Utah Tech 50-33.

The Trailblazers struggled to find things in their first game and quickly found themselves in a three-point hole late in the opening quarter. Down 21-0, Utah Tech finally scored its first points of the night on a field goal five minutes into the second quarter.
However, Sacramento State was quick to stop Utah Tech’s drive and responded with another touchdown with two and a half minutes left in the first half.
34 seconds later, the Trailblazers got into the end zone for the first time on a 29-yard connection between Kobe Tracy and Devon Osborne. A Trailblazer touchdown cut the Hornets’ lead to 28-10.

Utah Tech couldn’t slow down Sacramento State before halftime as the Hornets scored a touchdown on the Trailblazers with just 18 seconds left in the second quarter to take a 35-10 lead into the locker room.
After halftime, Utah Tech led the way in points on the scoreboard. Quali Conley ran the ball for five yards and six scores midway through the third quarter to make it 35-17.

Sacramento State would end the quarter by adding a pair of touchdowns while Utah Tech could only manage a field goal.
The Trailblazers scored a pair of touchdowns and held the Hornets scoreless in the fourth quarter, but it was late to overcome the early deficit.

Tracy finished the game 23/40 passing for 339 yards and two touchdowns. Utah Tech’s receivers were led by Joey Hobert’s 11 receptions for 183 yards and Osborne’s six catches for 113 yards. Hobert and Osborne each had a touchdown reception. Conley added 13 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

With the loss, the Trail Blazers fell to 0-1.
