Women’s golf started at number 24


Coral Springs, Fla. The Texas Tech women’s golf program debuted at 24 in the first Mizuno WCGA Coaches Poll announced last week.

The program’s 21st NCAA Regional appearance and 11th in 13 seasons as a head coach. Jojo Robertsonthe Red Raiders opened their 2022-23 season last weekend at the Carmel Bowl.

Tech finished the 2021-22 season ranked 24th overall after finishing seventh at the NCAA Stanford Regional.

led by junior Gala Dumez, the Red Raiders finish sixth out of a loaded field: No. 1 Stanford, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Arizona. Overall, six of the eight teams ranked in the WCGA Top-25 and eight were receiving at least one vote (Mississippi State, Vanderbilt).

Dumez opened with back-to-back rounds under par to finish -1 overall, good for a tie for sixth.

The Red Raiders are one of four Big 12 programs, joining the Cowgirls (No. 15), Texas (No. 16) and Baylor (No. 18).

Women’s golf returns to action a week from Monday (Sept. 12) for the Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico.
