“It’s easy to overstate the change,” observes Babak Radboy, Clemens’ handyman partner at Telfar, referring to the political and social convulsions in the wider world. “There is a desire in fashion [and beyond] to produce a narrative of progress that makes it seem like the work is great, when in fact very little has changed about who holds power or how things work.”

“We spent two years calling each other, and now that it’s all over, everyone has figured out how to get back to business as usual without upsetting people,” Clemens adds. But business as usual is gone. A new language is emerging from an old dictionary. This is the situation of fashion now, at a moment of creation.
