A technology company outage prevented fans from downloading tickets

A technology company that handles ticketing for most major college football programs experienced an issue Saturday that left fans across the country unable to download digital tickets to their smartphones for several hours.

The outage has prompted StubHub, one of the largest secondary ticket marketplaces, to halt sales until the matter is resolved.

Paciola is the largest primary ticket company in college athletics, with 125 clients, including 75% Power Five, according to the Irvine, Calif.-based company’s website.

The nature of the problem was unclear. Phone and email messages seeking comment were not returned.

Schools said fans trying to download tickets would face problems on Saturday morning. StubHub and several schools reported that Paciola’s system was up and running as of 4:30 pm EDT.

Stadiums and arenas have largely switched from paper tickets to digital tickets.

Schools affected by the outage have sent an email to ticket holders asking them to show up at the door. Some schools have encouraged fans to go to the ticket office for help.
